Your data

Everything above is calculated from data stored only in this browser. Export a backup, move it to another device, or print a clean summary — nothing is ever sent anywhere.

Import overwrites the data currently saved in this browser, after you confirm.

Semester GPA calculator

Add each course you took this semester with its credit hours and the grade you received. GPA is the credit-weighted average of your grade points: GPA = Σ(Credit × Grade point) ÷ Σ(Credit).

Search for a course by code or name to fill in its name and credit hours automatically — both stay editable afterward. Can’t find a course? Just type its code or name in the search box; it will be kept as entered.

CGPA calculator

GPA covers one semester. CGPA is cumulative: it weights every semester you have completed by the credits earned in it, so a heavy semester moves your CGPA more than a light one. Use whichever input you have.

Grading system

IUBAT follows a letter grading system on a 4.0 point scale. Grade F is the failing grade. This table is reproduced from the grading system table published on the IUBAT Academics page.

Academic rules

A summary of the published rules that affect the calculations on this page. Nothing here is paraphrased beyond what the official sources state. Where a source is silent or inconsistent, that is said plainly instead of filled in.

Last verified: 17 September 2026

Grading system

  • IUBAT uses a letter grading system on a 4.0 point scale.
  • Grade F is the failing grade.
  • Mark ranges and grade points are listed in the grading table above.
  • The grade “I” marks incomplete work and must be removed no later than three weeks from the beginning of the next semester, otherwise it automatically converts to an F.
  • From Spring 2024, no “I” grade is awarded in mid-term examinations; make-up exams are held centrally instead.

Passing requirements

  • Passing grade in core, elective, departmental and English courses is C (plain).
  • Passing grade in thesis and practicum is B- (minus).
  • Passing grade in the comprehensive examination is Satisfactory, which is 45% marks or above. Only students who pass the written comprehensive may sit for the viva, and the written exam and viva must be passed separately.
  • Once a course is taken, the student must pass it, even if that means retaking it.

CGPA requirements

  • Credit hours of courses with an F grade are not counted when SGPA and CGPA are calculated.
  • To stay in good standing, a degree student must maintain a CGPA of 2.5 on the 4.0 scale.
  • A student below 2.5 at the end of a semester is placed on probation, and stays on probation until a semester is completed with a CGPA of 2.5 or above, or until suspension or dismissal.
  • Failing to clear probation after two semesters leads to suspension; failing to come out of suspension after two more semesters leads to academic dismissal.

Retake and improvement

  • Students with an F who completed all other course requirements, have 80% or above class attendance and attended all the exams may sit for an improvement examination, which covers the final examination only.
  • Students with a D in a course whose passing grade is C, who completed all other requirements and have 80% or above attendance, may also sit for an improvement examination.
  • The highest grade obtainable in an improvement examination is B+.
  • Students who do not reach a passing grade in the improvement examination retake the course.
  • Students with an F and below 80% attendance or incomplete class activities retake the course.
  • Students who score below B (plain) in a course may improve their CGPA by retaking it.
  • Suspended students may improve CGPA by retaking courses with grades below B.
  • The improvement examination fee is Tk. 4,000 per course.

Attendance

  • From Fall 2026, students must maintain at least 75% class attendance in each course to be eligible to sit for the mid-term, mid-term make-up, final, I-removal and improvement examinations. This follows the Academic Council decision of 27 June 2026.
  • For Summer 2026 the mid-term was excluded from this policy, and eligibility for the final, I-removal and improvement examinations was based on classes held after the mid-term.
  • Separately, eligibility for an improvement examination requires 80% or above class attendance. The two thresholds serve different purposes and both appear in current sources.
  • An instructor may assign a final grade of F to a student who fails to meet the attendance and assignment requirements of a course, which must be made known within the first two weeks.

Graduation

  • The passing CGPA for graduation is a minimum of 2.50.
  • The maximum duration for completing a bachelor degree is seven years.
  • A student who withdraws must complete the program within ten academic years from the date of initial registration.

Points this site could not verify

  • No mark range or grade point is published for C- or D+, although both appear in the prose list of passing grades. They are not implemented here.
  • The mark distribution across first-term, mid-term and final examinations is published as an image in the Spring 2024 notice and could not be read from the page text, so it is not reproduced. Mark distribution for lab, sessional, drawing and workshop courses is set by the respective department.
  • No official rule was found stating how a retaken course replaces or averages with the original grade in the CGPA. Confirm this with the Registrar before relying on any assumption.
  • No EEE-specific grading variation was found; the rules above are university-wide.
